A tragic accident in Polk County early Sunday morning claimed the lives of two people and left another seriously injured following a devastating collision near U.S. Highway 27 and California Boulevard in Davenport, Florida. According to preliminary information released by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the collision occurred around 3:50 a.m. and involved a Genesis G70 and a Ford Explorer. Authorities confirmed that the 21-year-old driver of the Genesis, a resident of Summerfield, Florida, died at the scene. Officials also stated that he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A 30-year-old woman riding as a passenger in the Genesis suffered critical injuries and was transported to the hospital, where she later passed away as a result of her injuries.
The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 31-year-old man, sustained serious injuries in the collision but is expected to survive.
