The Perry Township and Beach City communities are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 21-year-old Cole Scholey, who tragically died following a devastating head-on collision on U.S. Route 62. His passing, along with another victim in the crash, has left family members, friends, and loved ones in deep grief as they struggle to process the sudden and tragic loss.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. near milepost 11 when Cole, driving a 2019 Ford Ranger northbound, reportedly traveled left of center into the southbound lane for reasons still under investigation. His vehicle collided head-on with a 2021 Honda Odyssey driven by 56-year-old Kelly Kemp of Massillon.
The impact of the crash caused severe damage to both vehicles. Authorities confirmed that Kelly Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene, while Cole Scholey was critically injured and transported to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital, where he later passed away despite medical efforts.
A juvenile passenger in Kemp’s vehicle was also seriously injured and transported to Aultman Hospital for emergency treatment. Officials noted that neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, and speed is being considered as a possible contributing factor.
